The difference between eczema and lupus erythematosus lies in the different etiologic factors, different clinical manifestations, and different treatment options.
1. Causes: Eczema is mainly related to skin barrier dysfunction, immune abnormality, allergy, infection and other factors. Lupus erythematosus is mainly caused by family genetics, endocrine disorders, infections, ultraviolet radiation and other factors.
2. Clinical manifestations: eczema is mainly red in color, blisters, vesicles and oozing may appear, and eczema is often accompanied by obvious itching symptoms. Lupus erythematosus lesions are mainly dark red, with butterfly-shaped erythema on the cheeks and the back of the nose, or disc-shaped erythema, and the lesions may be accompanied by flaking and crusting, but there is usually no obvious itching symptoms.
3. Treatment: Eczema is mainly treated with topical medicines such as glycerite lotion and dexamethasone cream, and those with severe itching can be treated with antihistamines such as loratadine. Lupus erythematosus is mainly treated with oral hydroxychloroquine, glucocorticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), and immunosuppressants (e.g., mertiomacrophenol ester).
Patients with eczema or lupus erythematosus are advised to go to the rheumatology and immunology department, dermatology department and other related departments of regular hospitals as soon as possible, and follow the doctor’s instructions. The medication should be used according to the doctor’s prescription, do not self-medicate.
