What is cochlear sclerosis?

Cochlear sclerosis is a type of otosclerosis called cochlear otosclerosis. Patients with cochlear sclerosis have lesions in the cochlea, where spongy new bone replaces the original normal bone. Because this diseased bone senses and transmits sound much worse than normal bone, the patient’s hearing decreases to some degree. Through research, it has been found that otosclerosis is related to genetic and endocrine changes. Treatment of otosclerosis can generally be carried out with drugs such as sodium fluoride if the patient is in good physical condition and does not have chronic diseases such as chronic nephritis. Severe otosclerosis patients can undergo surgical treatment, cochlear implant surgery can be done to improve the patient’s hearing. If patients do not want to choose surgical treatment, they can also wear hearing aids, which can also help to improve their hearing.
