Individuals with Down syndrome experience changes in facial features and changes in body shape as they grow older, with mental retardation and other unusual disorders. The clinical manifestations of Down syndrome are numerous. As the child grows older, facial features change, such as wide eye spacing, lateral upward slanting of the eyes, and a chubby tongue. As the child reaches adulthood, there are changes in physical appearance, such as short stature, thinning hair, and short neck. Surviving Down’s syndrome children are usually mentally retarded and may have other disorders such as congenital heart disease, leukemia, etc. Down’s syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality. Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality and genetic counseling should be performed before marriage and consanguineous marriages should be avoided.
