The difference between pituitary tumors and pituitary adenomas lies in the fact that the tissues involved in the tumor are different. Pituitary tumors include tumors of the adenopituitary gland, i.e., pituitary adenomas also include tumors that originate in the neuropituitary gland, as well as squamous epithelial cells of the craniopharyngeal duct remnants. Therefore, the difference between the two is that the name of the disease encompasses different conditions. Pituitary tumors are more extensive than pituitary adenomas in terms of the type of disease they encompass, as well as the range of tissues and cells involved. Pituitary adenomas involve the pituitary gland and affect the levels of hormones produced by the pituitary gland. Pituitary tumors that occur in the neuropituitary gland can also affect the clinical signs and symptoms associated with the neuropituitary gland.
