There are two common types of swelling in the sublingual gland area; one is swelling caused by an infection in the floor of the mouth in the sublingual gland area and the other is a bulge caused by a cyst in the sublingual gland area. These two have to be carefully identified as the treatment is different. If the swelling is caused by infection, there will be obvious inflammation in the corresponding area, which is typically characterized by redness, swelling, heat and pain, with a corresponding marked increase in the floor of the mouth, and the patient’s pain will be obvious and accompanied by a high body temperature. A wide local incision is required to avoid the risk of respiratory obstruction. For sublingual gland cysts, surgical treatment is usually required, in which the sublingual gland and the cyst are directly removed together, and a better therapeutic effect can be obtained.
