Xiaotongcao is not generally used for laxative, so there is no corresponding formula to use, specific medication as prescribed by the doctor. Xiao Tong Cao is a Chinese herbal medicine made from the dried stem pith of Chinese sparkleflower, Himalayan sparkleflower or green pod leaf of Cornusaceae, with sweet and light flavor, cold and cool nature, and belongs to the lung, stomach and bladder meridians, and has the efficacy of clearing away heat, inducing diuresis, and promoting lactation. It is used for treating fever and thirst, dysuria (unsmooth urination), yellowish-red urine, feverish drenching (burning and stinging pain is obvious when urinating, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of traction in the lower abdomen), oedema, and inability to pass breast milk, but is not usually used to pass stools. This herb should be used with caution in patients belonging to the category of Qi deficiency without dampness-heat and in pregnant women. Adverse effects are not known.
