Treatment of congenital cataracts

At present, many medical institutions and parents at home and abroad do not pay attention to visual function training after congenital cataract surgery. Although the surgery is successfully completed, the children do not undergo systematic refractive correction and amblyopia treatment, and many children often have serious amblyopia, nystagmus, perceptual strabismus and other problems after surgery, which hinder the development and reconstruction of visual function of the children and make the visual function remain in low vision. How to standardize the amblyopia treatment for children after congenital cataract surgery?

For children with monocular cataract, it is recommended to choose rigid corneal contact lenses (RGP) for correction; for children with binocular cataract, both RGP and frame glasses can be chosen for correction.

Covering treatment is very important for children with monocular cataract. By covering the healthy eye, the functional development of the amblyopic eye is stimulated. A 3:1 covering frequency (3 days covering, 1 day release) can be used for 1-year-old children; a 4:1 covering frequency (4 days covering, 1 day release) can be used for 2-year-old children; and a 6:1 covering frequency (6 days covering, 1 day release) can be used for children over 3 years old. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the behavior of the child to avoid the occurrence of masking amblyopia in the healthy eye; it is also necessary to prevent the occurrence of bad accidents such as falls caused by poor vision in the amblyopic eye after the healthy eye is masked.

Third, amblyopia training The current amblyopia treatment instrument has many stimulation training, such as red flash, Hedinger light brush, can be very good to strengthen the macular central concave gaze function; and fine training, can enhance the child’s eye-hand coordination training; for children over 4 years old, we recommend the visual perceptual network training, can be carried out fusion, stereo vision function, adjustment and convergence function For children over the age of 4, we recommend training in the visual perceptual network, which can be used for fusion, stereopsis, accommodation and convergence functions, to improve the visual quality of the child and rebuild binocular vision.
