HFMD is a predominantly summertime epidemic that is transmitted by close contact, gastrointestinal transmission, or respiratory transmission. Children under five years of age are susceptible to HFMD. During an epidemic, it is important to avoid going to public places and to improve hand hygiene, such as washing hands before eating, after going to the toilet, after going out or after touching the rash of the child. If the child has a fever and is reluctant to eat, he or she should be treated symptomatically with cool, light foods that are acceptable and gradually transitioned from a liquid to a solid diet. In addition, drink plenty of water and rinse the mouth with warm water before and after eating to promote rash repair.
