The uncomfortable feeling that something seems to be falling down from the vagina in a woman in her sixties may be caused by prolapse of the vaginal wall, uterine prolapse and other reasons.
1. Vaginal wall prolapse: due to the laxity of the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor, the anterior or posterior wall of the vagina falls along the vagina, and in severe cases, it may prolapse outside the vaginal opening. The patient may experience discomfort, a feeling of vaginal drop, or may be able to palpate a bulbous mass at the vaginal opening, and in the case of prolapse of the anterior wall, may experience difficulty in urination. If it is a prolapse of the posterior wall, there may be difficulty in defecation.
2. Uterine prolapse: In older women, damage or dysfunction of the pelvic floor support structures causes the uterus to drop from its normal position along the vagina and partially or completely prolapse beyond the vaginal opening. The patient will have a sensation of falling and a swelling prolapsing from the vagina.
Women in their sixties with physical abnormalities need to seek medical examination to clarify the cause of the problem and deal with it under the guidance of a doctor.
