What is antigen detection

Antigen testing is done primarily by detecting the antigen of the virus, which is the outer shell of the virus and is more easily detected. Antigen is fast and easy to perform the test, but the accuracy is relatively low. Early screening for novel coronavirus infections can be done by applying antigenic testing to help detect infected persons as early as possible, which is very beneficial to outbreak prevention and control efforts. Antigen testing is applicable to people who visit primary health care facilities, those who present with respiratory and fever symptoms, those who present with symptoms within 5 days, and those who are under quarantine observation. This includes people in their homes under quarantine observation, close contacts and sub-closely contacts, closed and controlled areas. Antigen test room screening is a complementary tool to screen suspected infected people more quickly. Residents can also relieve pressure on hospital nucleic acid testing by testing themselves at home. Positive antigen results can be used for early compartmentalization and rapid management of suspected populations. However, antigen testing is not a substitute for nucleic acid testing, and the definitive diagnosis of new coronavirus infections is still based on nucleic acid testing.
