Esophageal Cancer Symptoms

  The symptom performance of esophageal cancer depends on the progress of the disease. Early esophageal cancer symptoms are not obvious, and there may be slight swallowing discomfort, and with the progress of esophageal cancer disease, progressive swallowing difficulty appears, and even the corresponding organ complications appear in the late stage.  Most of the early esophageal cancer has slight symptoms of swallowing discomfort, common early symptoms include: choking sensation when swallowing; pain and stuffy discomfort behind the sternum; foreign body sensation in the esophagus and pharynx, the symptoms are light and heavy at times, which do not affect normal diet and often do not attract patients’ attention. Symptoms of middle and late stage esophageal cancer are more typical, which are: progressive swallowing difficulty; firstly, it is difficult to swallow hard food, then semi-liquid food, and finally even water and saliva cannot be swallowed. The patient gradually loses weight, becomes dehydrated and weak. In advanced esophageal cancer, when the lesion invades extra-esophageal tissues, it can lead to persistent sternal and back pain; when the lesion invades the laryngeal antral nerve, it can lead to hoarseness; if the lesion invades trachea and bronchus, it can lead to esophage-trachea and esophage-bronchus fistula, violent choking and coughing when swallowing water and food, and complicated respiratory infection, and finally cachexia state. If the disease progresses further and invades liver, brain and other organs, jaundice, ascites, coma and other symptoms may appear.  In a word, the symptoms of esophageal cancer will be aggravated with the aggravation of the disease. Once the above symptoms appear, one should seek medical treatment in time for early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment.
