Do unruptured cerebral arteriovenous malformations require surgery?

Unruptured cerebral arteriovenous malformations with a Spetzler-martin classification of grade 1 and 2 usually achieve curative embolization or resection and can be considered for treatment. For higher grade cerebral arteriovenous malformations a multidisciplinary discussion between the neurointerventionist, neurosurgeon and gamma knife surgeon is required to determine the best treatment option.
