Damp-heat and cold-dampness should be differentiated from symptomatic manifestations, tongue texture and coating, and pulse. For example, damp-heat syndrome is characterized by a red tongue, yellow tongue coating; cold-dampness syndrome is characterized by a light tongue, white tongue coating. 1. Symptoms: Damp-heat can be manifested as body heat not Yang (feel the whole body heat, touch the skin is not very hot), head and body sleepy, thirsty and not drink much, distended stomach and abdomen (abdominal feeling distended and uncomfortable) and other symptoms. Cold-dampness is characterized by drowsiness and heaviness in the head and body, pain in the joints and unfavorable flexion and extension, lack of sweating, fatigue and fear of cold, or swelling of the face and body, especially below the waist, pain in the stomach and epigastric region, loose stools, or discharges of white and reddish, and unfavorable urination, and other symptoms. 2. Pulse: The pulse of the Damp-Heat syndrome is smooth to the touch, like beads rolling in a disk. The pulse in cold-dampness cases needs heavy pressure to be felt, and is weak or flaccid and soft to the touch. Damp-Heat and Cold-Damp need to be differentiated by the doctor.
