Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang is composed of four herbs: Atractylodes macrocephala, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Gui Zhi and Poria. It has the effect of inducing diuresis to strengthen the spleen, resolving drinks and warming the yang.
Poria is the monarch drug, used for seepage of dampness to strengthen the spleen and promote diuresis; Gui Zhi is the minister drug, transforming qi and warming yang, both of which can treat yang deficiency and water retention; Atractylodes Macrocephala is used for drying dampness and strengthening the spleen, Poria and Atractylodes Macrocephala are used in conjunction with one another to treat the disease at its root; Glycyrrhiza glabra warms the middle Jiao and harmonizes all the herbs.
