How long it takes for Tourette’s syndrome to return to normal cannot be generalized. Those with mild symptoms return to normal in 3 to 6 months; those with severe symptoms may take 1 to 2 years to return to normal, or longer, and some patients do not recover for life. Tourette’s syndrome refers to involuntary, sudden muscle twitching that occurs in childhood, often manifested by blinking, shrugging, opening the mouth, shaking the head, etc. Vocal tics, such as clearing the throat and coughing, may also occur. If it is detected early and the symptoms are relatively single, it can be relieved in about 1 month and return to normal in 3~6 months after treatment by specialized doctors. If the tics are more serious, they can recover in 1~2 years after treatment with specialized doctors. Some children have recurrent episodes, which are more difficult to treat, and the recovery time will be longer. A few children develop severe Tourette’s syndrome and may not recover for life. Therefore, once the child is found to have symptoms of Tourette’s syndrome, it is recommended to go to the Department of Neurology of a regular hospital as soon as possible for timely treatment and control of the development of the disease.
