What is the most severe type of HPV

The most serious types of HPV are types 16 and 18. HPV, whose full name is human papillomavirus, is a virus that has been linked to cervical cancer. There are about 160 types of HPV subtypes found, among which about 14 are closely related to cervical cancer. HPV is divided into high-risk and low-risk types according to its cancer-causing potential. High-risk HPV may cause cervical cancer. In 99.7% of cervical cancer patients, evidence of high-risk HPV infection is found in the lesions. 70% of cervical cancer patients are closely related to HPV types 16 and 18. Among the high-risk types, types 16 and 18 have the highest probability of causing cervical cancer and should be given high attention. For women with positive HPV infection types 16 and 18, cervical biopsy is recommended to exclude any cervical lesions.
