Diet and lifestyle considerations for peptic ulcers

In addition to drug treatment, peptic ulcer should generally pay attention to proper rest, reasonable diet, and quit bad habits. 1.Appropriate rest should include both physical and mental aspects. It means that patients with obvious stomach discomfort, black stool and vomiting blood should be hospitalized and rest in bed. For those with mental tension, more concerns and mental ill health, sedatives should be given appropriately, and explain the condition to the patient to relieve mental burden, not to stay up late and keep sufficient sleep. 2.Rational diet includes the following aspects: (1) Diet should be regular, regular diet is conducive to the healing of ulcers. At present, it is believed that three meals a day can be, at most four meals a day, rather than advocate multiple meals, because after each meal is accompanied by high gastric acid secretion, a small number of multiple meals is not conducive to the healing of ulcer disease. (2) Diet should be nutritious, adequate calories, rich in protein and vitamins, carbohydrates do not affect the secretion of gastric acid and need not be restricted, fat can delay the emptying time of the stomach, but fat can inhibit the secretion of gastric acid, the current view does not need to be strictly restricted, but advocate not to eat or eat less fried, fried, smoked and pickled foods, avoid overeating, avoid overheating, too hard and too acidic food. (3) Guide the diet according to the condition. For active ulcers or ulcers with bleeding, the diet should be less acidic and less stimulating, such as soybean milk and rice porridge type liquid diet. A liquid diet should be introduced only after the bleeding has stopped. For patients with incomplete pyloric obstruction should be fluid, for patients with complete obstruction should fasting, gastrointestinal decompression, if necessary, surgical treatment. 3, quit bad habits, quit smoking and alcohol, do not drink strong tea and coffee, do not take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, indomethacin, pautazone, etc., affect the healing of ulcer disease, easy to cause the recurrence of ulcer disease, patients who must take such drugs, should be taken at the same time with mucosal protective agents, in order to reduce the treatment of ulcer disease. In short, peptic ulcer should pay attention to rest, diet, quit bad habits, coupled with reasonable treatment, is completely possible to cure, most peptic ulcers can be cured through conservative medical treatment, especially duodenal bulb ulcers, surgery is now basically not advocated.
