The indications for surgical treatment of gallstones mainly include a high number or large size of stones; calcification of the gallbladder wall, etc.; and the presence of large gallbladder polyps. Surgery is generally indicated for a large number of gallbladder stones and larger stones with a diameter of 2-3 cm; calcification of the gallbladder wall or the presence of a porcelain gallbladder; gallbladder stones accompanied by ≥1 cm of gallbladder polyps; thickening of the gallbladder wall of more than 3 mm; or the presence of chronic cholecystitis. It should be noted that prophylactic cholecystectomy is generally not performed for gallbladder stones in children and asymptomatic gallbladder stones. Surgery is also contraindicated in patients with acute cholecystitis, acute cholangitis, severe bleeding disorders, coagulation disorders, or poor general condition that cannot tolerate surgery. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended to consult a doctor promptly for diagnosis and treatment.
