What causes low platelet volume

Low platelet volume is usually due to abnormal bone marrow hematopoiesis, such as aplastic anemia, leukemia, malignant tumor radiotherapy can lead to abnormal bone marrow hematopoiesis.
1. Aplastic anemia: when suffering from this disease, there are usually hematopoietic stem cell damage, bone marrow hematopoietic failure, megakaryocyte division to form platelets and other conditions, which causes a decrease in the number of whole blood cells, and ultimately leads to low platelet volume.
2. Leukemia: the proliferation of normal cells is affected by the large number of leukemia cells proliferating in the bone marrow. The megakaryocytes cannot divide into normal platelets, but divide to form many platelets with small volume, which leads to low platelet volume.
3. Malignant tumors: including lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, etc., when radiotherapy is needed, it usually damages the hematopoietic function of bone marrow, leading to the reduction of whole blood cells, thus resulting in low platelet volume.
In addition to the above factors, factors such as hypersplenism can also lead to low platelet volume. Patients with low platelet volume should undergo further examination and treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
