What are the current misconceptions about the treatment of rheumatic diseases?

  (1) Myth 1: rheumatism is an “incurable cancer”, is an “incurable disease”. On the back of the “can not die, not live”, “light is lazy, heavy is paralyzed” and other ideological baggage, pessimistic and disappointed, not actively treated; or listen to false medical advertising, anxiously seeking treatment. As a result, the best and effective treatment period is delayed and missed, resulting in the deterioration of the disease, disability, and even “hopeless”. In fact, with the development of science and technology, the new effective anti-rheumatic drugs, especially the listing of biological agents, the majority of patients to control the disease, long-term remission has become a reality. (2) misconception two: some believe that rheumatism is not a major disease, can not die, just a pain in the joints, the pain is very strong, eat some painkillers, no pain on the line. This idea is not right, because rheumatism is a chronic progressive disease, the disease for a long time, and without proper treatment, the disease will further progress, eventually leading to disability, life-threatening. (3) Myth 3: “Hormone abuse” leads to centripetal obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis and infection are common misconceptions and adverse consequences for many rheumatoid arthritis patients. Although hormones have powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-swelling and pain-relieving effects. However, hormones alone cannot fundamentally stop the progression of the disease and have many side effects. It is also easy to develop drug dependence and resistance, and once the drug is stopped, the symptoms may rebound and even be life-threatening. Therefore, hormones must be used correctly under the guidance and observation of rheumatologists.
