Taken together, Jin Nei Jin (鸡内金), Hawthorn (山楂), and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (陈皮), can be used to treat chancre (a chronic disease of children characterized by emaciation, abnormal eating and drinking, abdominal distension, thinning of hair and yellowing of the scalp, diarrhoea and abdominal pain, and coughing of cold phlegm).
Chicken Nei Jin, Hawthorn and Chen Pi are all Chinese herbs, and taking Chicken Nei Jin, Hawthorn and Chen Pi together has the common effect of all three.
Chicken Nei Jin has the effect of eliminating food and strengthening stomach, astringent essence and stopping spermatorrhea (consolidating semen and preventing spermatorrhea). It is used for treating pediatric chancre, lithiasis (increased frequency of urination, dripping and astringent pain), and spermatorrhea with kidney deficiency, but is not suitable for those with spleen deficiency and no accumulation and stagnation.
Hawthorn has the efficacy of eliminating food stagnation, promoting qi circulation and dispersing blood stasis, and is used for treating dietary stagnation, diarrhea and dysentery, abdominal pain, and chest and abdominal pain with blood stasis, etc. However, it should be used with caution for those who have weak spleen and stomach, no stagnation, or excessive secretion of gastric acid.
Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae has the effects of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and dissolving phlegm), and is used in the treatment of stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach, eructation (hiccups), chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest), and coughing with cold phlegm. However, it is not suitable for people with qi deficiency and yin deficiency and dry cough, and should be taken with caution by patients with evidence of vomiting blood.
It is recommended that patients should take Chicken Neijin Hawthorn Pericarp under the diagnosis of traditional Chinese medicine, so as to avoid the adverse consequences of blind use of medication.
