Does amaranth make red poop?

Eating amaranth may result in red poop. Amaranth, especially red amaranth, contains a lot of natural red pigment, as well as a lot of vitamins and dietary fiber, which provide the body with a variety of nutrients. If red amaranth is consumed in large quantities, the red pigments in amaranth cannot be absorbed by the body. These red pigments mixed in the stool will cause the stool to turn red, which is a normal phenomenon. When the red pigments are excreted from the body, the stool will return to normal. Note that amaranth contains a large amount of oxalic acid, which may combine with calcium ions in the intestines to form precipitates, increasing the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and affecting the body’s absorption of calcium ions when eaten directly. Therefore, it is better to blanch amaranth before eating, which can remove most of the oxalic acid. It is recommended to consume amaranth in moderation so as not to overindulge in indigestion, and to consult a doctor in case of any discomfort.
