Abiraterone Acetate Tablets work by inhibiting the 17-hydroxylase C17,20-cleaving enzyme thereby treating many types of prostate cancer.
Abiraterone acetate tablets are converted in vivo to abiraterone, an androgen biosynthesis inhibitor that inhibits 17-hydroxylase C17,20-cleaving enzyme, which is expressed in prostate, adrenal, and testicular tumor tissues and is an enzyme necessary for androgen biosynthesis.
This drug is indicated for the treatment of selected prostate cancers, such as metastatic desmoplasia-resistant prostate cancer, newly diagnosed endocrine therapy-sensitive high-risk metastatic prostate cancers, including prostate cancers that have not been treated with, or have been treated with, endocrine therapy for a period of time up to 3 months.
The drug is contraindicated in persons with hypersensitivity reactions to the active ingredient or excipients of the product, in patients with severe hepatic impairment, in women who are pregnant or at risk of pregnancy. The most common adverse reactions after administration are peripheral edema, hypokalemia, hypertension and urinary tract infections.
