Diagnosis and prevention of febrile convulsions

Fever convulsions are one of the most common convulsions in children. Some parents are particularly nervous when they see their child having a convulsion, while some parents who often like to ask Baidu may ignore their child’s condition by following Baidu’s experience. So I have time at noon to give you a discussion about this common disease. Because of the immaturity of the infant brain, the simple structure of nerve cells, the incomplete differentiation of the cortex, the imperfect development of the dendrites of neurons, and the fact that some brain chemistry is different from that of mature brain tissue, all of these may cause a lowering of the threshold for convulsions and cause convulsions. The age of high incidence of febrile convulsions is 6 months to 3 years. Fever convulsions rarely occur in children younger than 6 months of age, so the younger the infant is the younger the febrile convulsions are the first to rule out intracranial infection. The diagnosis of febrile convulsions should be the following, age-appropriate, in the early stages of upper respiratory tract infection or other infectious diseases, when the temperature is above 38 degrees with sudden onset of convulsions, and to exclude intracranial infections or other etiologies. (including congenital encephalopathy, degenerative disease, cerebrovascular disease), and there is no previous history of fever-free convulsions to be diagnosed. There is a genetic link between some febrile convulsions well and epilepsy. Some epilepsies with a very poor prognosis, such as Dravet’s syndrome are also early manifestations of febrile convulsions. So it cannot be generalized. It should not be taken lightly. Prevention of febrile convulsions includes two aspects: Firstly, children who have had febrile convulsions should exercise, prevent upper respiratory tract infections, and minimize or avoid acute febrile illnesses in infancy and childhood. Secondly, if febrile convulsions occur repeatedly, anticonvulsant drugs such as Valium can be used prophylactically. In short, only by understanding this knowledge can you take better care of your child.
