Can febrile convulsions affect intelligence?

Whether or not febrile convulsions can affect intelligence depends on the child’s specific situation and cannot be generalized. If a simple febrile convulsion occurs and the duration of the convulsion is short, the child’s intelligence is not usually affected. However, if the child has neurological abnormalities or a family history of epilepsy, febrile convulsions may cause convulsive brain injury, which may affect the child’s intelligence to some extent. If the child has a febrile convulsion, parents can put him in a flat position with his head to the side to avoid accidental aspiration of vomit, wipe away secretions in time, and wipe with a warm water towel for physical cooling, which usually relieves the convulsion in 2-5 minutes. Children with a history of febrile convulsions should pay attention to rest, parents need to strengthen their care, and if there is a fever, symptomatic treatment is needed in a timely manner to lower the body temperature and reduce the number of convulsions.
