An unusually strong taste of urine can be classified as physiologic or pathologic. Physiologic may be related to low water intake. Pathologic may be related to diabetes mellitus, urethritis, phenylketonuria and so on.
1. Physiological:
When the patient drinks too little water, the urine can not be diluted in the body, and the urine is too thick. Then there will be a situation such as urine taste becomes bigger and yellow urine.
2.Pathologic:
(1) diabetes mellitus: when diabetes mellitus urine sugar is too high or diabetic ketoacidosis, there may be a large taste of urine, and the patient’s mouth in diabetic ketoacidosis can also have a rotten apple taste.
(2) Urethritis: Inflammation of the urethra due to infection by pathogens such as bacteria or viruses. Due to the mixture of pathogens and inflammatory secretions in the urine, the urine may appear odor and other conditions, and may also appear urethral itching, painful urination, urethral opening redness and swelling, urethral secretions and other symptoms.
(3) Phenylketonuria: due to the reduced activity or lack of phenylalanine hydroxylase, resulting in patients with backward intellectual development, urine and sweat with ratty urine odor.
