“Prevention is better than cure” to keep babies from the silent world

According to media reports, there are 27.8 million persons with hearing disabilities in China, and 23,000 newborn children with hearing disabilities each year. Hearing loss in childhood will not only cause delayed speech development or even deafness, but will also cause delayed development of the child’s emotional, psychological and social interaction abilities, thus imposing a heavy burden on the family and society. Therefore, early detection of children’s hearing loss and early and effective rehabilitation are of far-reaching significance to reduce the birth of hearing disabilities and alleviate the burden on families and society. To this end, in the “National Ear Care Day” is approaching, to remind the majority of parents always care for the baby’s little ears. 1, the baby’s hearing development process (1) 0 ~ 3 months: the baby will be awakened by the high volume of noise or for a shock; in the waking state of the baby heard the sound, will turn the eyes and head to find the source of the sound, hear a friendly or familiar voice will stop crying, like to listen to high-pitched voice and the mother’s voice. (2) At 4 to 5 months of age: babies have the ability to orient to the sounds they hear, which is a very important hearing manifestation and can be used to determine whether the baby’s hearing is normal at an early stage. In addition, babies are afraid of angry sounds and are interested in sound-making toys. (3) 5 ~ 6 months: the baby has been able to perceive the customary speech sounds, know their own names, when adults call his name, hear will turn to whistle the caller, and do a friendly smile, indicating response. (4) 7 to 9 months: If the hearing has been normal, the baby can understand simple language, and under the language guidance of adults, will say “goodbye”, “welcome”. At the same time, will also do these two phrases meaning of action, such as clapping hands to express “welcome”, with “wave” to express goodbye. (5) 10 to 12 months: when the baby hears the adult’s instruction, can point out the parts of their own five senses, such as eyes, ears, mouth, etc.; can wave their hands with the music, can look for the sound outside the field of vision; respond to simple language, such as father, mother, their breast name, etc.. (6) 12 to 15 months: the baby can imitate the pronunciation of adults, such as father “,” “mother”, “baby” and so on. When hearing “give me xxx”, the baby can bring something over; when hearing “where is xxx”, the baby will look for something with his/her eyes. When approaching the baby covertly and calling his name softly, the baby will turn his head to look for the source of the sound. (7) 15 to 18 months: The baby is able to listen to some simple instructions, can say two or three words at once, understands the meaning of some common words, and likes to say them often. The baby likes others to use their hands to cover their faces and play hide-and-seek games with him. 2, simple home baby hearing test method Some mothers are always worried about their babies have hearing problems, but go to the hospital to do the test and afraid of the baby does not cooperate. In fact, some simple hearing test do not have to run to the hospital can not do, you can integrate these tests into the game, at home and the baby while playing the test. Such as: (1) ringing test: the baby woke up let him lie on the bed, behind his ear 10 to 15 centimeters above the shaking of a copper bell, but can not let him see the bell. After hearing the bell, if the baby stops moving immediately or blinks his eyes after hearing it, it means that hearing exists, if there is no response, it means that there is a problem with hearing. (2) Whistling Test: A 5 to 6 month old baby will immediately turn his head towards the source of the sound when his name is gently whistled behind his back. If you do not turn your head to look for, there is no reaction, may be a hearing problem; sometimes do not have to whistle but with a strong sound, such as bamboo boards, gongs and other sounds, you can also observe whether the baby to turn his head to look for the source of the sound. (3) high-five test: in about 1 meter away from the baby’s place fierce high-five, observe the baby heard, whether it will immediately stop the activity, blinking, and jumping action, if the above reaction indicates that the hearing exists. If your baby does not respond to the above tests, you should take him to the hospital to have his hearing checked. If necessary, use the instrument to measure whether there is hearing, if indeed there is hearing impairment, but also to determine the degree of impairment. 3, baby hearing impairment prevention Hearing is an important way to harmonize with the surrounding environment, the modern information society more need to “eyes six ways, ears in all directions”. Therefore, parents should protect children’s hearing. (1) Speak of eugenics. Fetal maternal viral infections and genetic factors can lead to congenital deafness caused by underdevelopment of the inner ear, premature birth, difficult labor due to neonatal asphyxia, severe jaundice, etc. can lead to hearing damage. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid consanguineous marriages, make good perinatal health care for pregnant women, and pay attention to the prudent use of drugs during pregnancy. (2) Prevent pollution of the outer and middle ear. Children’s Eustachian tubes are short, wide and straight, and are horizontal. When the nasopharyngeal secretion increases due to colds and other diseases, or when babies spit up or choke on milk, bacteria can easily enter the middle ear from the Eustachian tube. In addition, when washing the baby’s hair or swimming, avoid letting the sewage into the ear; and should avoid the baby’s tears flowing into the ear canal while lying down to avoid infection. (3) Avoid accidental injury. Never let babies stuff tiny objects such as beans and small beads into the ear to avoid damage and infection of the mucous membrane of the external ear canal. Children like to play and tease, accidentally touching the ear canal can cause infection, which can cause hearing loss. If the head is traumatized, it is also easy to spread to the inner ear, and in severe cases, the eardrum will rupture. (4) Avoid noise pollution. Infant hearing organ development is not yet perfect, too much sound stimulation will damage the tender hearing organ. Disco, rock and other high-volume fast-paced music, will lead to microvascular spasm of the inner ear, blood supply is reduced, so that hearing loss, and even cause noise deafness. Babies should be brought to entertainment venues such as cabarets as little as possible, and the volume of sound in the home theater should be controlled appropriately. (5) Actively prevent and control infectious diseases. Measles, epidemic encephalitis, B brain and so on may damage the hearing organs and cause hearing impairment. Therefore, it is necessary to get vaccinated on time to prevent these infectious diseases, and actively prevent and control all kinds of acute infectious diseases. (6) Be alert to drug-induced deafness. Deafness is the most serious of the sensorineural deafness, and a lot of sensorineural deafness is caused by drug poisoning. Therefore, sick children should not use penicillin, streptomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, diuretics, antimalarials and other drugs as much as possible, because these drugs have toxic side effects on the inner ear.
