What is the correlation between cancer and diet

The “Tongue Tied Body” has been popular for some time, and recently another chart, “Cancer on the Tongue: Foods that Increase or Decrease Tumor Risk”, listing 23 foods, lifestyles, and 15 types of cancers, has been hotly debated online. The chart is not necessarily “reliable”, but about 1/3 of cancers are related to diet, and active control of food intake and change of eating habits play a vital role in fighting cancer. Alcohol abuse: it is the most “dangerous” for the liver and stomach. In the chart, nothing is more alarming than alcohol – it is indicated to be closely related to at least 6 types of cancers, namely oral cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, pre-menopausal breast cancer and post-menopausal breast cancer. Alcohol hurts the liver, as all Chinese people know, but is it possible that alcohol increases the risk of so many tumors? Ouyang Xuenong said: It is possible, especially that the risk of tumors caused by alcohol is related to individual sensitivity and there is some individual variability. For example, people who are easily red in the face when drinking alcohol are more likely to have tumors triggered by heavy alcohol consumption because of genetic polymorphisms in their bodies. The liver is the largest detoxification plant in the body, and alcohol must be detoxified by the liver. Long-term alcohol abuse will cause the liver to be overburdened and cirrhosis will occur, and some of the cirrhosis will turn into liver cancer. Long-term alcohol consumption, and excessive alcohol consumption, but also easy to destroy the gastric mucosa. After the destruction of the gastric mucosa, the stomach loses its protection and the highly acidic gastric acid will corrode the stomach, making it prone to ulcers. Ulcers do not heal for a long time, the possibility of cancer is very high. In addition, barbecue, puffed and fried foods are also high-risk cancer-causing foods. Ouyang Xuenong repeatedly emphasized that we must eat naturally and healthily, and not eat junk food. Barbecued, puffed and fried foods are best eaten sparingly, especially by children. These three types of food are on his “diet blacklist”, which he has repeatedly explained to patients in his work. Barbecue can produce carcinogenic substances “polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons”, which are recognized as chemical carcinogens. Puffed foods often add additives such as bulking agents, some puffed foods will be added to the surface of the hydrogenated fat, easy to produce trans fatty acids. And many fried food oil used repeatedly, also contains a large number of trans fatty acids, causing great harm to the human body, such as fatty liver, hypertension, cholecystitis, gastric disease, diabetes, obesity, may also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer. ”Food often change instead better, if a certain food has factors that prompt someone to become cancerous, change the food, it will often interrupt the ‘cancer project’.” Ouyang Xuenong said, want to eat healthy, according to the person, according to the time and place, according to the different physique, gender, age and other factors to identify the following, pay attention to the diversity and balance of nutrition in a period of time. Abuse: vitamins are not “innocent” In the chart, the most “innocent” is sugary drinks, which seem to have no relationship with 15 types of cancer. But are sugary drinks really not dangerous? Ouyang Xuenong gives a negative answer. The human body mainly depends on the intake of glucose for energy, and sugary drinks can provide much of the energy needed by the human body. However, modern people do not lack of energy, drink a lot of sugary drinks, coupled with the lack of exercise, the excess energy will lead to human obesity. Obesity can cause metabolic disorders and increase the burden on the organs, which is closely related to diseases such as hypertension, high blood sugar and high blood cholesterol, and can increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, sugary drinks should never be consumed in large quantities. In the chart, the most surprising thing is that the chart of beta carotene is not “clean”. In this regard, Ouyang Xuenong explained that individual studies have found that the abuse of beta carotene supplementation may increase the risk of lung cancer. He believes that only excessive intake may cause harm. Normally, adequate intake of calcium and vitamins – such as beta carotene – in the diet still does more good than harm to the body, especially since the dietary patterns of modern urbanites dictate that many people may have inadequate calcium intake or insufficient vitamin intake. But any nutrient, when taken in excess, may also have certain adverse effects. In clinical practice, it is very common for cancer patients to take various vitamin supplements such as multivitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, carotenoids, and cod liver oil. Although the goal of vitamin supplementation is to prevent tumor recurrence, this practice is not completely free of danger. ”When supplementing with various vitamins, especially when supplementing with a single vitamin, it can add to the metabolic burden of the body because the organism must metabolize these substances”, said Ouyang Xuenong, “It is likely that you have too much of one substance in your body and not enough of another, which can put the patient’s cells in a dangerous state. ” Also, the body can absorb some of the supplement, but if there are still cancer cells in the body, then the normal cells cannot absorb the cancer cells, so a major supplement is not recommended. Vitamins are essential to maintain human metabolism and health, and cannot be synthesized in the human body, but mainly obtained from the diet. Therefore, experts remind people that they can pay attention to a balanced diet in daily life according to the dietary pagoda, correct partial and picky eating habits, and ensure sufficient amount of vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs and other nutrients daily, so that a comprehensive and balanced diet can eliminate the need for additional vitamin supplementation.
