A red corn-like granular papule of the skin with intense itching and tingling sensation, commonly caused by obstruction of sweat gland ducts or impaired excretion during hot and humid climates. Prickly heat is a common superficial, inflammatory skin disease in summer or hot environments. Due to the high temperature and sweltering environment, a large amount of sweat does not evaporate easily, causing the keratin layer to become impregnated and swollen and the sweat ducts to become narrowed or obstructed, resulting in sweat retention and extravasation of sweat into the surrounding tissues, forming papules, blisters or pustules, mostly in the crease area.
How is a prickly rash-like rash diagnosed?
Rosacea-like rash.
A nonspecific rash commonly occurs in 10% of cases of brucellosis, and the more common ones are measles-like, scarlet fever-like, and roseola-like eruptions. Epidemiological data and occupation are of great value in assisting the diagnosis of the disease. If some specific clinical manifestations of the disease are also present, such as undulant fever and orchitis, the diagnosis can be basically established. Positive results of cultures of blood, bone marrow and pus are the basis for confirming the diagnosis. The agglutination test (or ELISA, complementary junction test, etc.) should be measured month by month and week by week, and those with high efficiency or exponential increase in potency have diagnostic value. In chronic patients, ELISA or anti-human globulin test should be performed when the agglutination test is negative, and 2-ME test should be performed to distinguish natural infection from artificial immunity, or to clarify whether the disease is active.
Pityriasis-like rash.
Commonly seen in Hartnup disease, an inherited amino acid metabolic disease, also known as hereditary niacin deficiency, with clinical manifestations of a pellagra-like rash, neurological damage and amino aciduria.
Erythema-like rash.
A very common symptom of a skin disease that is present in many skin conditions. It presents as scattered red bumps on the skin and red patches.
Acne-like rash.
Prevalent in people who have received long-term cosmetic treatments on the face, manifesting as limited acne, inflammatory papules, and a flaky, erythematous rash.
Erythema multiforme.
An acute self-limiting inflammatory skin disease, often associated with mucosal damage, with a polymorphic rash, typically with target-shaped or iris-like damage. Erythema multiforme often occurs in the spring and fall, and often has an acute onset. The prodromal symptoms include low-grade fever, headache, weakness of limbs, joint and muscle pain. Some patients may be susceptible to herpes simplex or upper respiratory tract infection at the same time or before the onset of the disease.
The rash is usually found on the face, neck and distal extremities, and the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes may also be involved. The lesions are polymorphic, showing erythema, macules, blisters, blisters, purple spots, and pemphigus, but macules and erythema are the most common. The typical color of the lesions is internal ultraviolet red, and blisters may appear in the center. The appearance is very peculiar, each rash has clear boundaries, just like a target-shaped form, this is the so-called iris-like lesions. It is helpful to see such a rash for diagnostic purposes.
The affected area is itchy or mildly painful and burning. The rash is usually not obvious systemic symptoms, the course of the disease is self-limiting, the lesions can be expected to subside after about 2 to 4 weeks, but often recur.
