What is the clinical significance of an enlarged spleen?

The spleen is not normally palpable in normal people and can only be touched if it is enlarged. Therefore, once the symptoms of an enlarged spleen appear, it usually indicates the presence of infectious factors or abnormalities due to non-infectious factors in the body, indicating that the patient has an infection, trauma, or a liver-derived, autoimmune, neoplastic or haematological disease, and requires prompt medical attention to prevent more serious effects.
