Can x-ray detect nodules in the lungs?

X-rays can also detect lung nodules, but mainly for nodules >1cm in diameter. For tiny nodules in the lungs, CT chest examination is still needed to be able to detect them. This is because CT chest examination has a higher positive rate compared to X-ray examination and can better detect hidden lung lesions. Pulmonary nodules currently have a tendency to increase in detection because of the prevalence of chest CT examinations, and most patients have no symptoms and are found to have pulmonary nodules during physical examinations. If the lung nodules are <5mm in diameter, the vast majority of them are benign nodules and generally do not need to be treated, and regular review of chest CT is sufficient. If the lung nodules are >8mm in diameter, it is best to further examine enhanced CT or PET-CT to clarify the nature of the nodules.
