From April 3, 2013, the Department of Endocrinology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University opened the “Adolescent and Adult Short Stature Clinic”. In recent years, parents have become more and more concerned about the height and physical development of their teenagers, but they generally lack general knowledge about pubertal development and short stature. In fact, the diagnosis and treatment of short stature need to follow certain formal methods, regardless of adolescents or adults, and not all people are suitable for growth hormone treatment. In addition, there are some patients with “adult growth hormone deficiency” that also need to be treated. Growth hormone is not exactly used to grow taller! In this type of patients, only 1/10 to 1/8 of the dose required for short patients is needed to control the disease. Again, strict control of indications and close monitoring are required. The aim of treatment after cessation of linear growth: to achieve full body growth and development, including natural growth of maximum bone and muscle mass. The purpose of growth hormone therapy replacement therapy for patients with adult-onset GHD: to improve body composition, preserve bone mass, normalize cardiovascular risk factors, maintain normal insulin-like growth factor status and optimal levels of physical and psychological function.
