The height of children is becoming more and more of a concern for parents. But children’s height can vary greatly at home, in the hospital and at school, sometimes measuring 110 cm at home, but only 108 cm in the hospital. Parents often have questions about this, what is going on? Is it because the measurements are not correct?
Measuring a child’s height is both simple and complicated. The simple thing is to measure height can be measured anywhere, at home, let the child stand against the wall, heels firmly, toes slightly apart, back, hips, heels are against the wall. Then use a triangular ruler or a book to hold the top of the head while leaning against the wall, draw a line along the edge of the right angle on the wall, and then use a ruler to measure the height of the child’s height. After the measurement, it is best to note on the wall when the measurement was taken, and then make the same record the next time you measure. This will allow for continuous comparison.
I say height measurement is complicated because it is really difficult to measure height accurately. I summarize, there are three main points One is to be true height rather than false height When measuring height, you must take off your shoes, take off your hat, wear a single coat, and if a girl has coiffure, braids or hair clips on top of her head, they should be taken off. Otherwise, the height of shoes, hats, hairpins, etc. will become false height, affecting the correct measurement.
Secondly, the whole body must be straight and not bent and overstretched. Older children over 3 years old generally use the standing position to measure their height, which should be upright, with eyes level, head not low and not overly tilted. Children under 3 years old generally use the supine position to measure the length of the body, remove shoes and socks, lie on the flat surface, straighten both lower limbs, straighten the head, neck and body, face straight ahead, and pull the ruler tightly to read the number.
Third, it must be measured by the same person at the same time and the same place with the same ruler because the height of each person is generally 1-2cm higher in the morning than at night, so it is best to measure at the same time. Different rulers, different floors and walls, the height and angle of the eyes of the person measuring will affect the measurement of height, so it should be measured at the same place, with the same ruler and the same person.
