Lung nodules can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine, but the exact treatment effect varies from person to person. The treatment of lung nodules is mainly based on their benign or malignant nature and the cause of the disease. For the benign tiny nodules and small nodules, traditional Chinese medicine has a good effect. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), lung nodules are mostly caused by poor qi flow (the body’s gases do not run smoothly) and blockage of blood and silt, and are often treated with Chinese medicines that regulate qi flow, activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis (to promote blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis in the body), and soften firmness and dissipate nodules (to soften and dissipate the hard nodules). For example, Sanling, Curcuma longa, Tao Ren, Safflower, Xia Gu Cao, Zhe Bei Mu, etc., should be added and subtracted according to the evidence. In addition, benign lung nodules with a clear cause should be treated for the cause. Anti-tuberculosis drugs should be given to treat tuberculosis, and anti-fungal treatment should be given to treat fungal infection. For malignant lung nodules, surgical resection should be considered. If the patient cannot tolerate surgery or has metastasis, radiotherapy or chemotherapy is feasible, and individualized treatment plans should be formulated under the guidance of doctors. The prognosis for patients with benign lung nodules is generally good, and patients should establish confidence in treatment, quit smoking and drinking, stay away from haze, take appropriate physical exercise, and maintain a good attitude. Patients who can be followed up and observed by the doctor should pay attention to regular checkups to prevent malignant changes of the nodules.
