It is not recommended to take half of a 5mg tablet of Engeletin, which is indicated for type 2 diabetes mellitus. According to the instructions the dose is 10mg in the morning, once a day, and if tolerated by the patient, the dose can be increased to 25mg. If the dose is reduced to 5 mg, the level of the drug in the body decreases after the half-life of the drug, which is not enough to have an effective hypoglycemic effect. According to the drug insert the drug is administered as 10mg once daily, with peak plasma concentrations of empagliflozin reached 1.5 hours after administration. Thereafter, plasma concentrations decreased biphasically, and the apparent terminal elimination half-life of empagliflozin was 12.4 hours, with an apparent oral clearance of 10.6 L/hour. This medication is not recommended for use in mid and late pregnancy, or during lactation. Urinary tract infections and increased urinary output are common adverse reactions, and this drug is contraindicated in individuals with a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions to this product, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis.
