How to identify ovulatory bleeding in Chinese medicine

Ovulation bleeding is called intermenstrual bleeding in Chinese medicine, and is classified as kidney yin deficiency, spleen qi deficiency, dampness-heat deficiency, and blood deficiency. According to the different diagnosis, it can be treated by taking Liangdi Tang and Erzhi Pill, Liver Clearing and Stopping Lymphatic Drainage Tang, and Blood Stasis Stopping Tang. 1. Kidney Yin deficiency: symptoms include bleeding in the middle of two menstrual periods, bright red in color, sticky and thick in texture, heart-heat (heat in the hearts of the hands and feet, and self-consciousness of being hot in the heart and chest), lumbar and knee soreness and tenderness (a feeling of soreness and weakness of the lumbar and knee), red tongue with little moss, and thin and countless pulse (a feeling of pulse that becomes narrower and finer, and accelerates in rate), etc. Treatment is with Liangdi Tang combined with Erzhi Pill. 2. Damp-heat syndrome: bleeding between periods, dark red color, sticky texture, chest tightness, bitter taste in mouth, short and reddish urine (small amount of urine, dark yellow color), red tongue, yellow and greasy moss, and slippery pulse, etc. The treatment is Clearing Liver and Stopping Lymphatic Symptoms Tang. 3. Blood stasis syndrome: bleeding between periods, purplish-black color with blood clots, stabbing pain on both sides of the abdomen, dark purple tongue with petechiae, thin stringy pulse, etc. Treat with Blood Stasis Relieving Tang. If symptoms of intermenstrual bleeding occur, consult the clinician and take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor.
