Far Zhi Meat should correctly be referred to as the Chinese herb Far Zhi, which is known to tranquilize the mind and benefit the intellect (stabilizing the mind and promoting intellectual development), dispel phlegm and open the orifices, and dissipate carbuncles and swellings. Far Zhi has the effects of tranquilizing the mind, dispelling phlegm and opening the orifices, and dispersing carbuncles and swellings. It is used in the treatment of insomnia, excessive dreaming, palpitations (accelerated heartbeat, often accompanied by panic attacks), epilepsy, convulsions, dysphoria (violent heartbeat, frightening and restlessness), forgetfulness, coughing with excessive phlegm, swelling and pain in the breast, and carbuncles and gangrene (a kind of venomous sores, which is an acute suppurative disease that occurs in the surface of the body, the limbs, and the internal organs) sores. It should be used with caution in those with internal phlegm-fire or solid heat, as well as those with gastric ulcer or gastritis. This herb is forbidden to be used in combination with De Poria, Long Bone Liang, Pearl, Dong Quai Zi, Veratrum, Cockroach, Qi Clam and Grub.
