What kind of lesions are colorectal polyps?

Colorectal polyps: In a broad sense, any elevated lesion protruding from the intestinal lumen is called a polyp. However, polyps are generally referred to as limited elevated lesions of the mucosa. Adenomas are classified as tubular adenomas, villous adenomas and mixed adenomas according to their histological characteristics. It is well established that adenomas are precancerous. Among them, choriocarcinoma has the highest cancer rate. Tubular adenomas have the lowest cancer rate. Therefore, all detected intestinal polyps should be removed. Endoscopic polypectomy is less invasive, has a shorter hospital stay, and prevents polyps from becoming cancerous.
