Dietary contraindications for common bile duct stones

The dietary contraindication of common bile duct stones is mainly due to its etiology, because after the obstruction of common bile duct stones, the patient develops symptoms, such as right upper abdominal pain, chills, high fever, jaundice, and loss of appetite. If you eat fatty food, the gallbladder will contract violently and the stone that did not form a complete obstruction will cause a complete obstruction of the bile duct, which will soon turn into an acute attack of cholangitis, which will be more dangerous. Therefore, in cases where it is clear that there are common bile duct stones, but there are no symptoms, a light diet should be the main focus. As soon as physically possible, surgical solution, whether endoscopic or surgical, is required to remove the stone as much as possible, because sooner or later it will become completely obstructed and cause acute septic cholangitis. Therefore, no special dietary attention is needed and once diagnosed, it is sufficient to simply follow a low-fat diet.
