Men who take four tablets of ribavirin need six months before they can prepare for pregnancy. Ribavirin, also known as viral azole, is an antiviral drug that inhibits a wide range of viruses. Ribavirin causes changes in the morphology of testicular sperm in men, which decreases the quality and quantity of sperm, thus affecting fertility. Therefore, men should use contraception during treatment and for six months after stopping the drug to avoid fetal abnormalities. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, stomach upset, vomiting, mild diarrhea, and constipation can occur after oral administration of ribavirin. It is contraindicated for people who are allergic to this product, pregnant women, women who plan to become pregnant and their male partners. According to the instructions for ribavirin, female patients should avoid pregnancy during treatment and for 9 months after stopping the drug, and female partners of male patients should avoid pregnancy for 6 months. Therefore, men who have taken 4 tablets of ribavirin are advised to stop taking the drug for six months to prepare for pregnancy to avoid fetal abnormalities.
