Hawthorn is often combined with Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, and Rhizoma Saffron to treat stagnant chest and hypochondrium (chest and ribs) pain. In addition, hawthorn also has the effect of resolving turbidity and lowering fat, which is also effective in relieving hyperlipidemia.
Hawthorn should be used with caution for those with excessive gastric acid secretion, and the contraindications of this medicine are not yet clear.
