There is no difference between golden bell seed and neem seed, both are the dried mature fruits of neem plant in the neem family. Neem has a bitter flavor, cold nature, belongs to the liver, small intestine, bladder meridian, has a small poison. It is good at dispersing heat from the liver, moving qi and relieving pain (relieving pain by regulating the body’s qi), and killing worms.
It is often used in combination with Yuan Hu to treat pain in the epigastric region (the stomach and epigastric area and the chest and ribs) caused by stagnation of qi in the liver and stomach, which results in heat (when the evil qi stays for too long, it is transformed into heat). If the pain in the epigastric region is prolonged, it can be combined with Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Angelicae Sinensis and Fructus Lycii if there is injury to yin and blood, or if there is liver stagnation that turns into heat.
Neem is also effective in treating hernia pain, and is often combined with Wu Yao, orange kernel and green peel. When treating abdominal pain caused by worms and accumulations, it is often paired with the herb Junjun (使君子). As neem has a certain degree of toxicity, patients should not be used in large quantities for a long period of time, so as not to cause vomiting, nausea and other toxic side effects, this drug is prohibited to give the spleen and stomach cold people use.
