Is it true that being too fat can cause diabetes?

As early as 1997, the World Health Organization (WHO) has defined obesity as a separate disease. Excessive obesity will not only increase the burden on the body, but also induce a variety of diseases: hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, etc., causing serious threats to health. Among these diseases caused by obesity, diabetes is the most concerned. So far, diabetes is still an incurable disease, can only be delayed by various methods, and obesity is the independent risk factors of type 2 diabetes. How does obesity cause diabetes? In addition to storing energy, fat also affects the secretion of hormones in the body and produces insulin resistance. The more fat in the body, the higher the insulin resistance will be, and the pressure on the pancreas to secrete insulin will increase, eventually leading to pancreatic failure and the formation of type 2 diabetes. However, this does not mean that obese people will definitely get diabetes, because diabetes requires a transformation process, so the longer the body is in an obese state, the higher the risk of diabetes, but if you lose weight in time, you can also slowly recuperate when the pancreatic function has not yet failed. At present, the standard treatment methods identified in the diabetes treatment guidelines are medication and weight loss metabolic surgery, but either will have certain requirements on the patient’s lifestyle habits and so on, and mature weight loss metabolic teams have even incorporated this into their treatment system.
