Infant eye rolling is considered to be related to imitation of others, strabismus, inverted eyelashes, and pediatric Tourette’s syndrome. 1. Imitation of others: when family members often roll their eyes in front of the infant, the infant may imitate the family’s actions and develop eye rolling. 2. Strabismus: Strabismus is related to congenital neuromuscular dysplasia, heredity and other factors. Strabismus can be manifested as upturning of the eyes, and some babies may have other symptoms such as crying, photophobia, amblyopia, blurred vision, and deviation of the head to see things. 3. Inverted eyelashes: Inverted eyelashes are mainly caused by lower eyelid redundancy and congenital inversion of the eyelids. When the inverted eyelashes come into contact with the baby’s cornea and conjunctiva, it can manifest as photophobia, tearing, pain, foreign body sensation, and there can be upturning of the eyes and increase in ocular secretion and other symptoms. 4. Pediatric Tourette Syndrome: the disease can also cause some infants to roll their eyes up. At present, the etiology of pediatric Tourette Syndrome is not clear, may be related to genetic, neurophysiological, psychological factors. Children with Tourette’s syndrome often have involuntary, purposeless, rapid muscle twitching, which may be manifested as blinking, pouting, nodding, etc., and may also be manifested as clearing of the throat and excessive anxiety. Parents are advised to take their babies with eye rolling to the doctor for examination to detect the disease. If it is clear that it is caused by a disease, we need to actively cooperate with the doctor to promote the recovery of the infant’s health.
