Sanyinjiao is located on the inner side of the lower leg, three inches above the tip of the inner ankle and behind the medial border of the tibia. Sanyinjiao belongs to the spleen meridian points, and can be used to treat a variety of diseases, such as diarrhea, bloating, loss of appetite, and other signs of weakness of the spleen and stomach; urinary disorders such as enuresis, impotence, spermatorrhea, and other urinary disorders; and gynecological disorders such as infertility, irregular menstruation, and leucorrhea. As well as palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), insomnia, hypertension, hot flashes (a burst of fever), night sweats (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, sweating stops after waking up), lower limb impotence paralysis (weakness and numbness of the lower limbs and pain), and a variety of other diseases. The acupoints can be stimulated by massaging or needling the Sanyinjiao to achieve the therapeutic effect. Pregnant women are prohibited from needling and massaging the Sanyinjiao, which carries the risk of triggering a miscarriage.
