Patients with hypothyroidism have a low basal metabolic rate, and their metabolism slows down, resulting in hypothermia. In addition to hypothermia, hypothyroid patients may also show coldness, fatigue, loss of appetite, pallor, swelling of the face or limbs, and decreased bowel movement and constipation. Patients with hypothyroidism may also have a body temperature greater than 35°C. Patients with hypothyroidism should be actively hospitalized. Patients with hypothyroidism need lifelong replacement therapy with thyroxine tablets. If the function of the thyroid gland returns to normal after oral medication or other treatments, the patient’s body temperature may also return to normal.
