What to do if the infusion port is clogged

Infusion port occlusion can be resolved by relieving the mechanical obstruction, thrombolysis, or removal of the port, depending on the situation. If the blockage is caused by the twisted catheter, the twisted catheter has to be restored to be smooth, such as changing the position to release the obstruction. If the port of infusion is caused by local thrombosis, the ultrasound examination should be completed to clarify the situation of thrombus, if the thrombus is small and the patient still needs to use the port of infusion in the future, it can be infused with urokinase thrombolytic therapy or give the patient low molecular heparin, so as to make the thrombus in the catheter gradually dissolve and absorb, and to restore the catheter to be smooth, but pay attention to the risk of bleeding. If the obstruction cannot be relieved by the above methods, it is recommended that the infusion port be removed and replaced, with care taken to dislodge the thrombus and prevent thromboembolic events. In addition, when administering medications through the port, obstruction of the port can be prevented by pulsatile tube flushing therapy.
