How long does it take for inflammation of the breast to heal itself during breastfeeding?

Whether and how long breast inflammation can heal on its own during breastfeeding depends on the patient’s condition, and cannot be generalized. Mastitis is a common disease in breastfeeding women, mainly caused by milk stagnation and bacterial infection, and can be characterized by localized redness, swelling, heat and pain in the breast. In the early stages of the disease, if the patient’s symptoms are extremely mild, they can usually heal themselves in 2-3 days after active milk evacuation and hot compress treatment. However, if the inflammation worsens and the patient develops local pain, elevated skin temperature and other symptoms, the patient cannot heal by itself and needs to be given anti-inflammatory drugs and other treatments as prescribed by the doctor, which can usually heal in about 1 week. If acute breast abscess is complicated, the patient should go to the hospital mammary department as soon as possible to perform incision and drainage treatment, and do bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test, and regularly perform incision change treatment, usually 1-2 months can gradually recover. It is recommended that women develop good breastfeeding habits during breastfeeding, do not let the baby sleep with the nipple, avoid milk stagnation, and empty the breast after breastfeeding to reduce the occurrence of mastitis.
