Bone marrow puncture sites are usually the anterior superior iliac spine, posterior superior iliac spine, sternum, and sphenoid process. The main purpose of puncture is to extract the hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow or to extract the blood from the bone marrow for testing and examination. The site selected for puncture varies according to different parts of the disease, such as the anterior superior iliac spine, which is usually considered in the case of pregnant women who are not suitable for lying on their back. The site of bone marrow puncture also depends on the disease. For example, in patients with myelofibrosis disease, puncture of the sternum is considered and needs to be performed by a more experienced doctor. Different puncture sites need to be chosen flexibly, depending on the condition and the length of time the patient has had the disease.
