Will I gain weight on short-acting contraceptives?

Short-acting contraceptive pills are a safe and effective method of contraception, but relatively few women actually use them. In addition to the lack of knowledge about contraception in China, another important reason is that many people think that the pill is composed of hormones and worry that they will gain weight if they take it. In fact, there is no need to have such a worry. I. There are many kinds of hormones, no need to talk about hormones: The reason why many people will associate “hormones” with “weight gain” is that when most people mention hormones, the default is “glucocorticoids “. These hormones are widely used in clinical practice, and they do make people gain weight after they are used. However, there is no need to panic at the mention of hormones. The human body itself contains hundreds of hormones, and women’s own secretion of estrogen can make women more feminine, that is, look more feminine. The most common short-acting contraceptive pills on the market contain hormones that are a combination of estrogen and progestin, not the “glucocorticoids” mentioned above. Although short-acting pills do not contain glucocorticoids, there are still many people who are concerned about gaining weight. Moreover, many women who use short-acting contraceptives respond that they do gain weight after using the pill. Such concerns and complaints have even influenced doctors to the point that some doctors believe that the pill does increase weight because too many patients inquire about weight gain on the pill. This is not the case. Second, research shows that short-acting contraceptives do not gain weight: 1, weight gain may be related to a better appetite: In the survey on weight gain shows that some women reflect that after using short-acting contraceptives, appetite than before, suspect that this may be related to weight gain after using the pill. 2, eat or not eat short-acting contraceptive pill control study showed that there is no difference in the proportion of weight gain: So, researchers designed a controlled trial to study the relationship between the pill and weight gain. The results found that not all women who used short-acting contraceptives gained weight, and there was no change in weight or weight loss. And comparing women who used the short-acting pill with those who used a placebo, it turned out that there was no difference in the percentage of women who experienced weight gain. 3, think weight gain may just be more concerned about taking the pill: If the pill can cause weight gain, then the weight should always be restored after stopping the pill. The study found that those women who responded to weight gain after using the pill did not lose weight after stopping the pill – they had actually been gaining weight, but were just more concerned about it after using the pill. 4, short-acting contraceptives also have no effect on lipid metabolism: In addition, from the perspective of short-acting contraceptives and lipid metabolism in the body, the study also did not find that short-acting contraceptives have an effect on lipid metabolism. Therefore, in conclusion, the available studies prove that taking short-acting contraceptives does not increase body weight. To control weight, good diet control and moderate exercise are the way to go.
